Cobh Ramblers FC can confirm that following tonight’s game with Bray Wanderers, our captain Shane Griffin will call time on his League of Ireland career.

Shane joined us at the beginning of the 2025 season, following on from winning the 2024 Men’s Premier Division with Shelbourne. He has gone on to make 56 appearances for the Rams and wearing the captain’s armband on 51 occasions.

Men’s First Team Manager Fran Rockett, “A special person and a great player that’s how I see Griff and I’ve enjoyed working with him.

Trying to balance family life, work and the relentless demands of football is never easy. Shane has given so much of his life to the game, and now the time is right for family to come first.

During this transitional period at the club, Shane’s experience, professionalism and character have been hugely important. Having someone of his calibre around the group during a period of change has been invaluable, and his influence has gone far beyond what he has contributed on the pitch.

It’s been an honour and a privilege to manage Shane. He’s someone who has earned huge respect throughout the game, and rightly so.

Thanks for everything, Griff. Wishing you and your family nothing but the very best for the next chapter.”

Director of Football Conor Meade, “Shane has been brilliant for us and has been the ultimate professional. We wish him all the best for the future.”

On behalf of everyone in Cobh Ramblers, we would like to thank Shane for finishing a stellar career here in St. Colman’s Park. We wish you all the best going forward and we hope to see you back in SCP soon.
